Hello VTKSA students! I'm Dr. Jae-Kyun Ko from Med
School Solutions. I have served as an Assistant Professor at Ohio State
University School of Medicine, where I also worked as a medical school
screener, responsible for evaluating and scoring medical school applications.
Recently, I relocated to Georgia and started a molecular biology service
company, which is my original business, and also started medical school
admissions consulting. A screener is a small number of
qualified professors who are selected from the faculty of medical schools to
review and evaluate medical school applications directly. For reference, in the
case of Ohio State University College of Medicine, about 50 screener professors
out of a total of over a thousand professors are responsible for medical school
admissions each year. During my time as a screener, I
gained valuable insights into the evaluation criteria and preparation
strategies for medical school admissions.
Now I am providing consulting services based on this critical knowledge. The most surprising thing is that
the scoring criteria and scoring methods for medical school admissions are
carried out in a very detailed, systematic, and objective system in accordance
with the guidelines of the AAMC, unlike what is known to the public by many
consultants or YouTube/Google. This system is commonly used by most medical
schools. Even more surprising is that more than 90% of applicants do not even
get an interview opportunity because they submit applications that are not in
line with this scoring system, not because of competition. To succeed in medical school
admissions, it is crucial to have a deep understanding of the evaluation
process and approach it strategically. Based on my experience as a screener, I
aim to provide priceless information and personalized advice to help students
create competitive applications and fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors. Due to the sensitive nature of
admissions evaluation information, it is challenging to share it with the
public openly. Therefore, I am initially focusing on promoting my services
within the Korean community, with a particular emphasis on Korean students in
the Atlanta area. I hope to become a valuable resource for the Atlanta
community and encourage anyone with questions or those interested in scheduling
a consultation to reach out to me. I also offer free consultations. Thank you. Sincerely, Dr. Jae-Kyun (James) Ko
