Earlier today, portions of campus were without power and water. Virginia Tech Electrical Services was notified of an electrical problem at 10:30 p.m. Oct. 18. In responding to the situation, it was discovered that an electrical vault outside of Wallace Hall was flooded due to a broken water main break. Repairs to electrical water services began immediately. Twelve academic buildings, six residence halls and one dining center (see list below) were affected by the loss of power and water. Classes were canceled and faculty and staff were asked not to report in the affected buildings. All other classes and work schedules continue normally. As of noon on Tuesday, water service was restored to all building except Wallace Hall. It is anticipated that electrical restoration will be complete by late this afternoon. Please refer to the Virginia Tech News website and university homepage as updates are warranted. Affected buildings were: Saunders, Agnew, Seitz, Smyth, Hutcheson, Price, Sandy, Engels, Fralin, Cheatam, Wallace, Wallace Annex, Slusher, Ambler Johnston, Hillcrest, Cochrane, Harper, Campbell, Dietrick |
